Blue Note is among the most revered names in jazz history.

Forming in 1939, the quintessential jazz record label is most famously associated with the hard-bop style of the 50s and 60s, and has remained at the forefront of jazz’s progression with incredible vision.

The Blue Note label oversaw many of the key recording projects of Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Horace Silver, Herbie Hancock, Art Blakey, Freddie Hubbard, Jimmy Smith, Hank Mobley and so many others. The classic albums that were produced, while each was intensely new and creative, all followed the common threads of soulful swing and wailing blues-tinged solos that were to become such an inspiration for samplers and hip-hop artists like Madlib, J Dilla and Questlove.

Tonight, tenor saxophonist Richard Pavlidis presents a special tribute to the iconic label’s enduring musical legacy. A Victorian College of the Arts graduate, Richard has released a solo album (Without Within, 2019) and has performed at leading jazz festivals across Australia and internationally
